The Cure Greatest Hits Rar 41

The Cure Greatest Hits Rar 41

The Cure are one of the most influential and enduring bands in the history of alternative rock. They have released 13 studio albums, several live albums, compilations, EPs, and singles. Their discography spans over four decades, from their debut album Three Imaginary Boys in 1979 to their latest album 4:13 Dream in 2008. Among their many releases, one of the most popular and acclaimed is their Greatest Hits album, which was first released in 2001.

The Greatest Hits album features select singles from the Cure's then-25 year history, along with two new tracks "Cut Here" and "Just Say Yes". All songs were newly remastered by Tim Young at Metropolis Mastering specifically for the collection. The album also includes a bonus disc of Acoustic Hits, which consists of the 18 songs from the North American release re-recorded using acoustic instruments. The album was a commercial and critical success, reaching the top 10 in several countries and receiving positive reviews from critics.

However, some fans may not be aware that there is another version of the Greatest Hits album that is even more rare and exclusive. This version is known as the Rar 41 edition, which was only released in Japan on November 7, 2001. The Rar 41 edition contains a third disc of rare and unreleased tracks, which were selected by Robert Smith himself. The disc contains 14 songs, some of which are demos, remixes, live versions, or alternate takes of previously released songs. The disc also contains two songs that have never been officially released before: "Signal to Noise" and "Home".

The Rar 41 edition is highly sought-after by collectors and fans of the Cure, as it offers a glimpse into the band's creative process and evolution over the years. The songs on the disc span from their early post-punk days to their later pop-rock experiments, showcasing their diversity and versatility as a band. Some of the highlights of the disc are:

  • "Signal to Noise", a dark and atmospheric song that was originally intended for the Bloodflowers album, but was left unfinished due to technical difficulties. It features a haunting vocal performance by Smith and a hypnotic guitar riff by Porl Thompson.

  • "Home", a cheerful and upbeat song that was recorded during the sessions for Wild Mood Swings, but was rejected by Smith for being too happy. It features a catchy chorus and a playful keyboard melody by Roger O'Donnell.

  • "A Forest (Tree Mix)", a remix of one of the Cure's most iconic songs by Mark Saunders, who also produced their Wish album. It adds a layer of electronic beats and effects to the original song, giving it a more modern and danceable feel.

  • "The Lovecats (TC & Benny Mix)", a remix of one of the Cure's most popular singles by Smith himself and Benny Benassi, who is a famous Italian DJ and producer. It transforms the original jazzy and funky song into a club-ready electro-house banger.

  • "Just Like Heaven (Dizzy Mix)", a remix of one of the Cure's most beloved songs by Smith himself and Paul Corkett, who also engineered their Disintegration album. It slows down the tempo and adds a layer of reverb and echo to the original song, giving it a more dreamy and ethereal quality.

The Rar 41 edition is a must-have for any fan of the Cure, as it offers a rare opportunity to hear some of their hidden gems and unreleased treasures. However, it is also very hard to find, as it was only released in limited quantities in Japan. The disc is not available on any streaming platforms or digital stores, and physical copies are very expensive and scarce on online marketplaces. Therefore, it is considered one of the most valuable and coveted items in the Cure's discography.

If you are lucky enough to own or find a copy of the Rar 41 edition, you should cherish it and enjoy it as much as possible. It is not only a great collection of songs, but also a testament to the Cure's legacy and influence as one of the greatest bands of all time.
